I have left the site relatively feature free for the moment, but drupal has the capacity to add a lot of features.
Drupal is easily extensible with a wide range of modules. Some of the ones that I am considering for newtooslo.org include the following :
-
Organic Groups - lets users create and manage their own groups. Once a user sets up the group they have rights over users. This option would allow groups such as the "Parents and Toddlers" or the "Young and Fun" group to be part of the site, as well as have their own space to organize. People can be part of any number of groups.
-
Mail2Web. This would allow people to post messages to the site via email, the same way they can with the yahoo group. I ajm really undecided about this one. One the one hand, it would lower the threshold for postings, on the other hand I think setting the bar a little higher for postings would reduce the frequency of flame wars and irrelevant messages.
-
Store - I have a heap of things to sell, and am not sure if I can be bothered with finn.no. This would be a great place for people to buy and sell their items to other members. More research required before deciding on a specific module.
- Ignore User module - lets users filter out other users
- Vote up down - Lets users decide which items are better than others
- Location - Adds location awareness to the site, we could include links to maps, and probably get some funky graphics about where people come from before they moved here.
Please add your comments here about what features you would like to see here.
In addition to supporting the suggestions listed in comments within other threads on this forum, I voice these thoughts on the Drupal features:
* Organic Groups - Sounds sweet! Maybe a group called "I talk over you and with myself?"
* Mail2Web - Would rather NOT see this implemented.
* Store - Fantastic feature. Just be sure to have enough filtering to prevent it degrading into a Craigslist Oslo spamfest. Perhaps if it is easy to implement and cheap to do, it would be nice to have a 25-100 øre insertion fee?
* Ignore User module - YES!!!
* Vote up down - Nice to have feature
* Location - Absolutely nice to have, so long as the privacy settings are able to hide individual layer data from non-trusted users and that "Ignored Users" can´t see you on the map.
